After Biplab Kumar Deb presented his resignation to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya at the Raj Bhawan in Agartala on Saturday, the BJP nominated state president and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Manik Saha as the next Chief Minister of Tripura.

Deb, who visited Delhi on Friday, said he would work inside the BJP’s organisation to secure the party’s re-election in the state in 2023. Many were surprised by the action, which came as the state prepares for Assembly elections early next year. Even members in his Cabinet said that they had no prior indication that he would do so.

“I was assigned the duty of the state president,” Dr Manik Saha told reporters following the meeting at the Chief Minister’s official house. I worked. I’ve now been designated the legislative party’s leader. My name was proposed by the CM, and everyone agreed.”

“The party made him president, and he worked a lot,” Deb added, congratulating Saha on his new post. The BJP won the local body elections that he presided over. He was chosen as the legislative party’s leader. I wish him success. I’m hoping he’ll pick up where I left off and strengthen the party and the administration.”
