Biplab Kumar Deb, the chief minister of Tripura, unexpectedly announced his resignation on Saturday.
Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya received the BJP leader’s resignation.
Deb told reporters after meeting with the governor that the BJP wants him to try to develop the organisation.

Deb had been to New Delhi on Thursday to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda to discuss the party’s issues in the northeastern state.

Rumours of infighting inside the BJP’s state branch have surfaced.

According to reports, interim leadership would be assumed by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, who is connected to the former Tripura royal family.

In 2023, the northeastern state will have elections.
