After suspected Islamic State militants invaded the Gurdwara Karte Parwan in the Afghan capital on Saturday morning, a security guard was slain and other members of the Sikh community are reported to be trapped inside.

Earlier, the ministry of external affairs voiced grave worry about the ISIS terrorist attack on Kabul’s Gurdwara Karte Parwan.

“We are gravely worried by news originating from Kabul of an attack on a precious gurdwara in that city,” said Arindam Bagchi, spokeswoman for the External Affairs Ministry.

“We are actively following the situation and await more information on the unfolding circumstances,” he continued.

According to accounts, an explosion occurred outside the gurdwara’s gate. When the ISIS militants attacked the gurdwara, about 25-30 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs were there. Three Taliban troops were injured, and at least two assailants were encircled in the gunfight.
