The beginning of their preseason trip will not see Cristiano Ronaldo travelling with his Manchester United teammates, according to The Guardian. The club has apparently granted the Portuguese striker further time off as he deals with an ongoing family crisis. As a result, he won’t be attending training anytime soon or travelling to Thailand with the squad on Friday.
Whether Ronaldo will participate in Manchester United’s preseason at all is still to be determined. The club has a jam-packed month of games planned for July, beginning on July 12 with a meeting against Liverpool in Bangkok, and continuing with a tour of Australia, one-off matches in Norway, and home matches in Manchester.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in the transfer market after the Portuguese striker allegedly filed a transfer request to force a departure from Manchester United.
Ronaldo has a year remaining on his contract and is reportedly not for sale, but the player has reportedly informed the club he wants to go. He is reportedly dissatisfied with not playing in the Champions League next season. Jorge Mendes, his agent, has had meetings with representatives from clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
The 37-year-old scored 24 goals for a lacklustre United club that went the entire season without winning any awards last year. In the Round of 16 of the Champions League, Atletico Madrid also eliminated the team. The Dutch manager Erik ten Hag, who has previously stated that Ronaldo is in his future intentions for the club, has been hired by the Red Devils.
