Ranchi: A curfew has been imposed in several areas of Ranchi after many police officers were hurt while attempting to manage an agitated throng near Hanuman Temple today. According to police, hundreds of demonstrators are demanding the arrest of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her inflammatory statements against Prophet Mohammad.
After the mob hurled stones at security officers, police shot in the air and used a lathi-charge to quell the situation. After Friday prayers, the demonstration began.
“A few officers have been hurt. We are investigating the matter. We are strengthening deployment “According to a top police officer.
A big mob gathered on Ranchi’s Main Road, chanting anti-Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, the former leader of the Delhi BJP’s media unit.
Heavy security has been deployed to handle the situation and prevent any unwanted incidents.
According to police officers, the demonstration has been ongoing since the morning and has gathered up steam following Friday prayers. Many stores and restaurants closed their doors in protest of the statements. Protesters requested that Nupur Sharma be arrested immediately.
“More than 1,100 stores in the market have been closed since the morning in protest of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal’s statements. We demand that they be arrested immediately “Haji Md Hasim, President of the New Daily Market Traders Welfare Association, said PTI.
Mr Hasim stated that they desired a peaceful parade, but police refused to provide permission. “So we’re calmly protesting outside our stores here,” he explained.
The controversy over the statements against Prophet Muhammad erupted on Sunday, with objections from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Iran, causing the BJP to take action against its officials and declare that it respects all religions. As tensions rose within the nation and overseas, the BJP dismissed Nupur Sharma and expelled Naveen Jindal on Sunday.
