PUNJAB, INDIA : On Sunday, Shubdeep Singh Sidhu Moose Wala, a Punjabi artist and Congress leader, was fatally murdered near Mansa. The 28-year-old was shot at least ten times near a temple in the village of Jhawahar Ke, and was certified dead at Mansa’s Civil Hospital.

This comes shortly after Moose Wala’s security cover was reduced. As part of the Bhagwant Mann government’s crackdown on VIP culture, he was one of the Punjab politicians who lost their security cover.

People were spotted yelling slogans against the Punjab government at the Mansa hospital after Moose Wala’s death.

Sidhu Moose Wala, a native of Moosa hamlet near Mansa, was the voice behind a slew of superhit songs in recent years. Moose Wala had run for the Mansa Assembly seat on a Congress ticket. With a margin of 63,323 votes, he was beaten by AAP’s Dr Vijay Singla.
In November of last year, Moose Wala joined the Congress to considerable excitement. After the Congress granted him a ticket from the Mansa Assembly constituency, the then-sitting Mansa MLA, Nazar Singh Manshahia, turned against the party, stating that he would oppose the controversial singer’s candidacy.
“Deeply horrified and grieved by the murder of potential Congress leader and creative artist, Sidhu Moosewala,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted shortly after the news of Moose Wala’s death broke. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and fans from across the world.”
